Caldecote Parish Council Petition
Understand the background and implications for you
Background
In 2024 residents recognised that there had previously been an effective Parish Council for Caldecote so they were motivated to re-establish it. This would ensure the continued conservation, development and protection of this important, historic, parish and its community. Parts of the Parish sit within a Designated Conservation Area requiring considered, proactive, management and, in addition, there have been proposed developments that would impact the environment here so residents felt that a Parish Council would be the most effective and democratic vehicle for managing these. A petition to NWBC was then drafted and agreed upon.
Dec 2024: Residents were ready to sign the petition but were then advised by NWBC that there were insufficient numbers of electors within the parish (varying between 138 - 142 over 12 months) to form a council, requiring a minimum of 150 and explained that we would need to propose a larger geographical area. A larger administrative area was considered and agreed on, incorporating some of which is currently within Hartshill and, due to it belonging to the Caldecote estate historically, it is closer to and more integrated with Caldecote through roads and footpaths than it is to the centre of Hartshill.
Jan 2024: The petition required 37.5% of the collective c. 165 electors within both the existing boundary and the extension. We gathered 75 signatures from across Caldecote and the relevant part of Hartshill, representing a total of 45% of electors.
Feb 2025: The petition was submitted to Democratic Services at North Warwickshire Borough Council who have advised that the next steps will be to determine its validity and then begin a Community Governance Review, including consultation with those effected individuals and businesses. This process can take a year to complete before a decision is made. This also times with a current Ward Boundary Review for North Warwickshire.
